  • fire systems are maintained and tested;
  • electrical risks are investigated;
  • teachers know their roles;
  • security guards are trained;
  • children practise safe evacuation;
  • mock drills produce corrective actions;
  • management reviews safety continuously.

The final question for every principal, school director and administrator should not be:

“Are we ready for the inspector?”

The question should be:

“Are we ready for a fire today?”

Because the inspector may come after notice is given. A fire will not.
